TEACHER of SINGING

Philosophy:

* Everyone can be taught to sing. It may be more difficult and take longer if students have problems with intonation and regard themselves as unmusical, or “tone deaf” but it is not impossible and students have been helped to overcome such difficulties.

Studio Practice:

*One-on-one singing lessons enable students to develop at a pace appropriate to their age and stage of vocal maturity.

*Exercises encourage correct posture, develop breath technique and management, improve pitch accuracy, pure vowels, equal tone production, flexibility, and range extension.

*Lessons include sight-singing, aural work, and musical knowledge.

*A wide range of repertoire, including classical, music theatre, gospel, blues and jazz is explored.

Experience:

* Teaching singing and musicianship mainly to adults in home studio in Cremorne for 12 years. Students have entered for AMEB, Trinity College, London, and ANZCA exams with considerable success.

*Singing and musicianship teacher at Ravenswood School for Girls for seven years.

*Singing teacher at Mosman Preparatory School for four years.

Professional associations:

*Former National Secretary and National Council member of the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS) for six years, former editor of the national newsletter “The Voice of ANATS” for nine years, and a continuing committee member of the NSW Chapter.

*Full member of the Music Teachers Association of NSW.

*Accredited by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to teach singing.

*Chorister with the Sydney Philharmonia Choir.

*Registered music therapist, and member of the Australian Music Therapy Association.

*Research presented at conferences in Brisbane, Melbourne, Finland and Holland. Still very interested in research into the singing voice.
